Panasonic upgrades Toughbook 19 with Core 2 duo, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Panasonic has upgraded its Toughbook 19 rugged convertible tablet pc, and they have upgraded it big time. If the previously release of the Panasonic Toughbook 19 was all about durability and defying severe physical conditions, the new Toughbook 19 is more about power and processing capability.

The new Panasonic Toughbook 19 now features a Core 2 Duo processor, 1GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. Panasonic even poured in an anti-glare, anti-reflective sunlight viewable display, a backlit keyboard, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity, mobile broadband-ready (WWAN), GPS and a 2-megapixel webcam. In short, after releasing a sub-performing Toughbook 19, Panasonic is now offering the real deal, which comes in a 5.1-pound package.

Now with all those upgrades comes the biggest upgrade of all, the Panasonic Toughbook 19’s price tag shoots up to an estimated price of $3,199.

Pink Glowing Sockets Remind You To Unplug!

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Do you know, that idle chargers (meaning they’re not charging anything) left plugged in electric sockets actually contribute to your electric bills? Same as appliances plugged in when not in use!

Yes, they do so it’s better if you unplug your chargers and appliances when you leave the house especially if you’re pretty obsessive-compulsive about your electric bills. Besides, they’re fire hazards as well, so it’s definitely better if you unplug!

Anyway, I found these really cute PINK glowing electrical sockets (designed by Shane Ellis and Terry Brown) that tell you when an outlet is drawing current. It keeps you reminded to unplug your appliances and stuff when not in use!

Pretty cool, I’m sure eco-chicks will love this!

Western Digital rolls out colorful new My Passport Elite USB hard drives

Western Digital has never been one to skimp on color choices for its portable hard drives, and it now busted out the crayons yet again for its new batch of My Passport Elite USB drives. Available in bronze, titanium, westminster blue and cherry red, the drives each boast a “soft-touch finish” to keep ‘em from slipping out of your hands, and weigh in at a mere 5 ounces. You’ll also get a built-in capacity gauge to let you know how much space you have left, as well as the usual back-up software and security measures. If that sounds like the drive you’ve been looking for, you can grab a 250GB model now for $170, or move on up to a 320GB drive for an even $200.

ASUS EAH3850 Trinity crams three Radeon GPUs onto one card

Forget FPS and polygon crunching, we want one of these ASUS EAH3850 just for its sheer logic-defying properties. ASUS really took AMD’s CrossFireX multi-GPU capabilities and ran with them, stuffing a ludicrous trio of GPUs onto a single “concept” card. Three RV670 cores power the setup, and it’s kept cool by some heatpipes and a water block. If your box doesn’t implode in incredulity, that means you can power four monitors with the three GPUs, or power a single monitor with all four at once for some seriously serious World of Warcraft, though we’ll have to wait for benchmarks to see how well this setup actually runs.

Blu-Ray Cracked, For Now

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

SlySoft, the makers of DVD cracking software, have finally released the long-promised BD+ crack for Blu-ray discs. We first reported on the company’s claims back in November of last year, but it has taken SlySoft until now to actually make the crack public.

Why? According to Peer van Heuen of SlySoft, “it was decided for strategic reasons to wait a bit for the outcome of the ‘format war’ between HD DVD and Blu-ray”. The company remains sanguine about the upcoming cat-and-mouse game which will inevitably ensue as Bluray fixes the security hole. “[W]e are well prepared for this and await the coming developments rather relaxed”, says van Heuen.

The software, AnyDVD HD, removes AACS encryption (which was also used by hd dvd) along with BD+, and is PC only. The €80 ($125) price seems a little optimistic. The people who will use this crack are unlikely to want to spend that much on software. Of course, it is already freely available at your local BitTorrent tracker site.

LG’s 5.1 megapixel OZ: a Casio W53CA hides behind the curtain

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Well lookie here, LG just announced a followup to its LH2300 Touch Web phone. This one’s for the twisty-fold clamshell fans — a design which makes it look positively Japanese superphone-like. In fact, we’re pretty sure it’s just the Casio W53CA with LG branding and new Hello UI for Korean consumption. Interesting given that Korea certainly isn’t lacking in mega-spec’d phones. Anyway, given the Exilim underpinnings it’s no surprise to find a 5.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, 28-mm lens, color correction, 9-point auto focus, and built-in anti-shake technology bunged into the backside. The LCD measures 2.8-inches (down from the LH2300’s 3-inch LCD) yet still manages the same 800 x 480 pixel resolution for DMB television and landscape or portrait web browsing. Inside the little 18.9-mm thin handset you’ll find 4GB NAND / 1GB SDRAM and microSD expansion for all your snaps and VGA / 30fps video. Coming to a 3G, CDMA network near you in April… just long as you live in South Korea or Japan.

There is no word on pricing as at press time, but I would probably buy this based on looks alone.

e-Snake Scooter that Tilts

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

The e-Snake is a scooter that is powered by lithium ion batteries. The scooter features a tilting mechanism which allows it to corner quicker while keeping the back wheels on the floor. It participated in Formula Electric and Hybrid in Italy last year and was awarded top marks for acceleration and speed. With it being electric, the scooter weighs quite a bit at 357 pounds. With that hefty weight it can still have a range of 62 miles which is ample for most people travelling to and from the office each day.

If it could be just made lighter, which might not be possible with the lithium ion batteries, I am sure it could get a far greater range. However, it’s not the best looking scooter I have seen. If you like to be green, then it could be ideal for you. Top speed of the tilting scooter is 31 MPH.
